Brisbane Airport Corporation statement on Laguna Whitsundays Airport

26/02/2009

Brisbane Airport Corporation Holdings Limited (BACH) has welcomed today’s announcement from the Deputy Premier, Paul Lucas, confirming the Laguna Whitsunday Brisbane Airport Consortium is the only remaining bidder for the development of the Laguna Whitsundays Airport.

In 2007, BACH entered into a partnership consortium with Laguna Australia Airport Pty Limited to participate in the bidding process for the development of Laguna Whitsundays Airport.

If the bid is accepted by the State Government, it is intended for BACH to act as an advisor to Laguna Australia Airport Pty Limited in the construction of the new airport in the Whitsundays, and would manage the operation of the airport on its completion.

BACH Managing Director and CEO Koen Rooijmans said the corporation was pleased to be involved in the process.

“BACH recognises this is a critical infrastructure investment opportunity for Queensland, which will bring major benefits to the local community through tourism, employment opportunities and improved connections to Australia,” Mr Rooijmans said.

“We are looking forward to working with Laguna Australia Airport Pty Limited on this significant aviation opportunity for Queensland and the local community of the Whitsundays.”
