Brisbane's Airport City Music hits a high note
17/07/2009
The sounds of jazz, pop and a big brass band may seem unusual in an airport, but it will be music to the ears of passengers and airport visitors this weekend at the Airport City Music Festival.
Brisbane Airport and Queensland Music Festival (QMF) have teamed up for a first ever music experience for airport users, as part of the Music in the Streets campaign.
Over the next three Queensland Music Festival weekends, visitors, travellers, residents and shoppers in Brisbane and Rockhampton will be grooving to music in unexpected places - including Brisbane Airport.
Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) Executive Manager Corporate Relations, Mr Jim Carden, is proud of the partnership between Brisbane Airport and QMF that will bring a number of musicians to the International Terminal on 17 July and Airport Village on 18 July.
"We are very excited to be a partner in this world class cultural event and to showcase the fantastic musicians in our world class International Terminal," Mr Carden said.
"The program of music planned for Brisbane Airport is set to be engaging and diverse. Airport Music has a long and fine tradition of easing a traveller from one destination to another; call it a musical interface, call it a comfort creator; we call it Airport City Music.”
Deborah Conway, Queeensland Music Festival, Artistic Director, said Airport City Music was inspired by the architectural spaces and vibe of the Brisbane Airport precinct.
"As I commuted almost weekly from Melbourne over the months leading up to the Festival, I began to think about how fantastic it would be to welcome people to this great city with music."
Visitors to the DFO and Airport Village will enjoy the music festival atmosphere on Saturday 18 July. The concert will come to an end in the Village Markets (opposite the DFO), outside the new Coffee Club and Transit Tavern, so that shoppers can relax and unwind at the end of a long day of bargain hunting.
Families can also take advantage of the continuing offer from Airtrain for kids to travel free with a fare paying adult. A free courtesy bus is also available from the terminals to Airport Village.
