A new partnership takes off
19/11/2009
Brisbane Airport Corporation Pty Limited (BAC) and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) today announced a new partnership, which will see BAC become the Principal Sponsor for the RFDS in Queensland.
But for the people who land at Brisbane Airport onboard a Royal Flying Doctor Service aircraft, quick, safe and reliable transit from the aircraft to the ambulance is the key priority and sometimes a matter of life and death.
In recognition of the important role RFDS plays for these travelers who desperately need Brisbane’s medical expertise, on 1 November 2009, Brisbane Airport signed on as a new Principal Sponsor for the RFDS in Queensland
Mr Nino Di Marco, RFDS CEO (Queensland Section) said he was excited to have BAC on board.
“Brisbane Airport has been a destination for tens of thousands of RFDS flights, and since 1995 has been home to our Head Office,” said Mr Di Marco.
“There has always been a close working relationship between Brisbane Airport and the RFDS but this partnership takes the relationship to a new and exciting level.”
Brisbane Airport CEO Ms Julieanne Alroe was proud to be joining with a Queensland and Australian icon in a partnership that will contribute around half a million dollars to the RFDS over the initial two years of the agreement.
“Aviation is all about connecting routes and networks, reducing the distance between destinations, and bringing people across Queensland and the world closer together,” Ms Alroe said.
“The RFDS is the lifeline for many Queenslanders living out in the regions, connecting them to Brisbane and vital health services and facilities across our state.
“We value the important work of the RFDS, assisting people around the state 24 hours a day, seven days a week – a service which is undoubtedly great for Queensland.
“BAC is proud to support what has become a major institution.”
The sponsorship aims to be more than BAC making a large contribution to the RFDS from their own coffers. It will also include staff contributions and fundraising in and around the airport precinct.
“We have over 300 of our own staff and more than 320 businesses with nearly 16,000 employees working in the BAC precinct. So we see this as a great opportunity to be assisting the RFDS to raise further funds through these networks,” Ms Alroe said.
From the RFDS perspective, Mr Di Marco hoped that BAC would be well rewarded for their generosity in a range of ways.
“Clearly this shows that the Brisbane Airport Corporation is a great corporate citizen and both their and our staff and stakeholders should recognise this as a great thing for BAC to do. But I also look forward to finding some creative ways to share some of our expertise with BAC and help them achieve other business goals.”
