Airline Sales Desks

Qantas and Air New Zealand Sales/Service desks are located on Level 4 of the International Terminal. You can also purchase airline tickets from Flight Centre on Level 4.

 

Within the Domestic Terminal, the Sales/Service desks are located on Level 1.

 

Airport Management

The Brisbane Airport Corporation Terminal Management office is located on Level 3 of the International Terminal.

Allowances - Duty Free

Arriving International Passengers: You may purchase up to 2250ml of alcohol to bring into Australia. However, you must declare to customs any alcohol over 1125ml purchased here or obtained overseas. Duty and taxes may have to be paid in some circumstances.

Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs)

Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are located on all levels of the International and Domestic Terminals.

 

Parents Room

Baby change rooms / parents rooms are equipped with change tables, bottle warmers and microwaves for your convenience. Parents rooms are located on all levels of the International and Domestic Terminals.

 

Lockers and baggage

NEVER leave bags unattended and never check-in items aboard an aircraft on behalf of others. Checked baggage is security screened.

 

At the International Terminal, baggage trolleys are provided free of charge are located in the carpark and on levels 2 and 4 of the International Terminal. For passenger convenience small trolleys for hand luggage and shopping are also provided in the L3 Departures Lounge at the International Terminal.

 

At the Domestic Terminal, trollies are available for a fee of $4. Trollies are located inside the Domestic Terminal Bulding.

 

Unfortunately lockers are not available at the Domestic Terminal, however, lockers have recently been installed at the International Terminal (on the ground floor at the entrance to the public car park). There are also lockers available at the Village Markets and Roma Street Transit Centre in Brisbane City. Please find more information below or call Smartecarte on 1800 808 251.

 Airport Village

 

A limited amount of lockers are also available at the Village Markets, which are located approximately 6 kilometres from the domestic terminal and approximately 3 kilometres from The International Terminal.

 

They are located to the right hand side of the Woolworth's supermarket entrance. These lockers may also assist if you are shopping at the direct factory outlet, which is located directly opposite the village markets. Lockers are available from Monday to Friday between 7am and 10pm and Saturday and Sunday between 7am and 7pm. It is not possible to reserve a locker.

Roma Street Transit Centre - Brisbane City

 

Locker facilities are also available at the the Roma Street Transit Centre in Brisbane City, you would need to contact them directly for information regarding this service on free call 1800 632 640.

 

These facilities are useful when travelling into Brisbane Central and Airtrain travels directly from the Terminals to Roma Street Transit Centre (for train timetable enquiries please contact Airtrain on +61 7 3216 3308.

 

Unaccompanied Baggage

 

If you are travelling on from Brisbane you may like to consider sending your luggage ahead as unaccompanied baggage, you can do this from the International terminal, Level 4 by taking your luggage to the Qantas unaccompanied baggage counter where they will send your goods on ahead for you. They can be contacted on 1300 368 747 to determine the cost involved.

Photos may not be taken in Customs controlled areas and where otherwise indicated. See also Security.

Check In - International Terminal

Check-in is located on Level 4 of the International Terminal for all airlines. Airline check-in is generally open 3 hours before flight departure time. Due to extra security measures you are advised to arrive early for your check-in. Aircraft boarding is called approx 40 minutes prior to departure time so please allow at least 20 minutes to clear Immigration and Security.

 

Within the Domestic Terminal, Check In is located on Level 1.

 

Currency Exchange

Foreign currency exchange, travellers’ cheques and travel insurance are available from Travelex outlets on Levels 2, 3 and 4. For more information, for a currency converter or to order your foreign currencies head to www.travelex.com.au

 

Customs

The Customs desk is located on Level 1 of the International Terminal. Please note that all baggage being brought into Australia is subject to screening by Australian Customs Border Protection Service and the Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service for prohibited goods.

Disabled parking near the Domestic terminal

Fifteen minute disabled parking bays for pick up/set down are available near the Domestic Terminal. Vehicles must display a registered disabled parking tab and are permitted to leave their vehicle unattended during this time to assist their passenger to/from the Domestic Terminal.

 

Domestic Flight Connections

For domestic transfers within the International Terminal using Qantas or Virgin, a domestic check-in desk is located in the Arrivals Hall on Level 2 after Customs processing.

 

Duty Free Shopping

Brisbane International Terminal offers one of the largest duty free shopping precincts in the southern hemisphere. For more information go to our Duty Free Shopping page.

 

General Aviation Area

Directions to the General Aviation Area are as follows: Head towards the Domestic Terminal along Airport Drive. Turn Left at the large roundabout onto Dryandra Road, this will take you behind the PARKLONG Carpark. Continue along Dryandra Road until you come to Casuarina Street on your left.

 

Hand Luggage

Contact the airline you are travelling with to find out what can be taken on board the aircraft. Carry on baggage must not contain any sharp implements or other prohibited items. For more information on security go to the Brisbane Airport Security section of this website.

 

Health/Medical

Passengers with a bona fide medical condition may carry a medical kit containing appropriate medical equipment. These passengers should carry evidence such as a doctor's certificate to substantiate their condition and also obtain airline approval prior to travel.

Hotel Reservations and Transfers

Reservations and tickets for transfers to your accommodation can be made at the Visitors Information Service and bookings desk provided by Southern Queensland Tourism or at the accommodation booking boards located on Level 2 of the International Terminal and Level 1 of the Domestic Terminal.

 

Internet Access

Internet Kiosks are available on Levels 2, 3 and 4 of the International Terminal. AUD 2.00 for 20 mins.

 

Visitor Information Centre

The Visitor Information Service and Bookings desk on Arrivals Level 2 operated by Southern Queensland Tourism provides booking services for accommodation and tickets for transfers including coach, rail and limousine, tour bookings and theme park tickets and passes.

Lost Property

Enquiries regarding lost property in the International Terminal can be made at the Visitors Information Desk located on Level 2 of the International Terminal (Tel: +61 7 3406 3190) .

 

For enquiries regarding lost property in the Domestic Terminal please call: Qantas Terminal +61 7 3867 3264, Virgin Australia Terminal +61 7 3114 8150 or Jetstar (Common User Terminal) +61 7 3305 9233.

Pick Up/ Drop Off

Due to Government security regulations, public parking anywhere in the vicinity of any airport terminal outside of the allocated spaces in the public car parks is not permitted. Visitors may drop off or pick up passengers in front of the terminals (maximum 2 minutes).

 

Cars parked outside of the public car parks or left unattended at the terminal will be towed away. Click here for more information on Airport Parking.

 

Prayer Room

A multi-denominational prayer room is located on Level 4 of the International Terminal.

 

Conference Rooms

For use of the Conference Room facilities located on Level 3 (prior to proceeding through Customs) of the International Terminal please contact the Brisbane Airport Corporation Terminal Management Office on Tel: +61 7 3406 3066 or fax: +61 7 3406 3070.

 

Public Pay Phones / Telephones

TriTel operate the public pay phones in the International Terminal.

 

Tritel phones accept payment by all Australian coins, credit cards, Tritel Smart phone cards or "Free to Caller" calls (including 1800 numbers).

 

Phone cards can be purchased from News Travels located on Levels 2, 3 & 4 of the International Terminal, or Newslink located on Level 2 of the Domestic Terminal. Phone cards can also be purchased from Southern Queensland Tourism located on Level 2 of the International Terminal, or Level 1 of the Domestic Terminal.

 

Quarantine

The Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service enquiries desk is located on Level 2 of the International Terminal. Tel: +61 7 3837 7777.

 

Prohibited Goods

For safety reasons the following items cannot be taken on board aircraft:

* any sharp implement * lighter fluid * gas cartridges and refills * acid * mercury * paint * firearms (including toy guns) * ammunition * knives * explosives * other weapons.

If you have any queries about on-board safety please contact your airline.

 

Security Screening

All embarking passengers must go through a security screening point before boarding a flight. All hand luggage (including handbag, camera etc) will be put through an X-ray machine and may be subject to search.

 

All knives or cutting implements such as nail scissors and pocket knives or sharp pointed objects like knitting needles, or corkscrews are prohibited as hand luggage.

 

These items should be packed in your check in luggage for travel. Prohibited items detected during the screening process may not be returned to the passenger. X-ray machines generally will not damage photographic film. Ask the attendant if you are unsure. All laptop computers must have their batteries removed for inspection.

 

Shower Facilities

At the International Terminal, showers are available on Levels 2, 3 and 4, and Levels 1 and 2 of the Domestic Terminals. The shower facilities are free of charge.

 

Terminal Shopping

Terminal shopping includes a wide variety of Duty Free goods and local, leisure and lifestyle outlets, designer fashion, fine art, sporting goods and Australian souvenirs. For more information go to Duty Free Shopping or Shopping and Dining.

 

Smoking Policy and Designated Smoking Areas

There are no smoking areas within the Brisbane Airport International and Domestic Terminal buildings.

 

As per the final changes to the Queensland Government anti-smoking laws, which took effect on 1 July 2006, smoking is allowed outside the entrance to the terminal buildings when standing more than 4 metres from an entrance.

 

A smoking balcony is located on Level 3 of the International Terminal after security.

 

Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS)

The Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) enables you to claim a refund of the goods and services tax (GST) and wine equalisation tax (WET) that you pay on goods you buy in Australia.

 

To claim a refund you must:

• Spend AUD300.00 or more in the one store and get a single tax invoice

• Buy goods no more than 30 days before departure

• Wear or carry the goods on board and present them along with your tax invoice, passport and boarding pass to a TRS facility prior to departing

Claims are only available up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of your flight.

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance can be purchased from Flight Centre on Level 4 or Travelex on Level 2 and Level 4 of the International Terminal.

Kingsford Smith Memorial Opening Hours

 

The Kingsford Smith Memorial is located off Airport Drive opposite the International Terminal. The Memorial is open to the public (all hours) and is free to visit. It houses Sir Charles Kingsford Smith’s historic aircraft the Southern Cross. There are information boards explaining the history of Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith and the Southern Cross. There is also a coin-activated voice-over system in both English and Japanese.

 

Travelling from the airport to the city

 

Train, Bus, Corporate Car, Limousine and Taxi services are available on arrival at Brisbane Airport and can be booked at the Visitor Information Centre. For visitors driving to and from the airport, there is a Shell service station located just outside the International Terminal on Airport Drive.

 

Distance from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Fraser Coast and Byron Bay from the airport

 

Brisbane Airport by car is:

  •  Brisbane City - 15kms (approx. 20 mins.)
  •  Surfers Paradise - 87kms (approx. 45 mins.)
  •  Caloundra - 94kms (approx. 1 hour)
  •  Noosa Heads - 140kms (approx. 2 hours)
  •  Hervey Bay - 327kms (approx. 3.5 hours)
  •  Byron Bay - 177kms (approx. 2.5 hours)

Tipping

 

Tipping isn’t widespread and isn’t expected in Australia for most services though a tip (10% is typical) is often given for good service at cafes and restaurants.

 

Location of Australia Zoo

 

Australia Zoo is near Landsborough on the Sunshine Coast about an hour north from Brisbane Airport by car.

 

Where to see Koalas and Kangaroos 

 

Koalas and kangaroos can be seen at sanctuaries and wildlife parks in various places in Southern Queensland including Lone Pine Sanctuary and Australian Woolshed (Brisbane), Australia Zoo (Sunshine Coast) and Currumbin Wild Life Sanctuary and Fleay’s Fauna Reserve (Gold Coast).

 

Where to Find a Rainforest 

 

Subtropical and temperate rainforests occur in numerous hinterland locations in Southern Queensland including Lamington National Park, Mt Tamborine, Blackall Ranges and Fraser Island.

 

Distance to the Great Barrier Reef

 

The nearest parts of the Great Barrier Reef are Lady Elliott and Lady Musgrave Island off the coast from Bundaberg. Both Islands are accessible by boat whilst small planes can also take passengers to Lady Elliott Island.

 

Best beaches

 

Southern Queensland offers a wide choice of beach holidays with some of the best bayside and surfing beaches in Australia. Moreton Bay provides excellent calm water bathing whilst the best surf beaches are found on the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. Remember - always bathe between the red and yellow flags on patrolled beaches.

 

Sun Protection

 

The Queensland sun is strong and bright and beachgoers should protect their skin from sunburn with a UV sunscreen offering a protection factor of at least 30+. A broad brim hat, shirt and sunglasses are also essential items for enjoying sunny days on the beach.

 

International Phone Calls

 

The international connection code is 0011 for per minute calls or 0018 for Easy Half Hour connections. Country Direct (Freecall 1800 801 800) enables visitors to access their home country for cellect or credit card calls. These calls can be made from public phones.

Plane Spotter's Area

 

There is a designated public viewing / observation area located at the northern end of the airport on Acacia Street. The usual hours of operation are 6am - 6pm daily. To get to Acacia Street head towards the Domestic Terminal along Airport Drive. Turn Left at the large roundabout onto Dryandra Road, this will take you behind the Long Term Car Park. Keep following the road along and Acacia Street the fifth street on your right. If you are planning to use some telescopic material to take photographs we would request that you enquire with our Corporate Relations department on +61 3406 3192 so that they can notify Airport Security.    

 

Closest Petrol / Fuel Station

 

There is a Shell service station located just outside the International Terminal on Airport Drive.
