Domestic Terminal Construction Works
Construction works continue on the Domestic Terminal Security Upgrade Project in the central area of the Domestic Terminal that have changed the way you travel at BNE. Please take the time to review the information below.
Changes for departing Domestic passengers
As a result of construction works, the way you access check-in, bag drop and security screening inside the terminal has changed for select airline passengers.
Best route for Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar passengers
- Qantas and QantasLink passengers will continue to check-in and bag-drop as normal inside the terminal, however passengers will need to use the new temporary northern security screening point. See the map below for directions.
- Jetstar passengers will use the new temporary check-in and bag-drop facility location on the northern (Qantas) side of the terminal, in front of the Qantas entry. Passengers will also use the new temporary northern security screening point. Find more detailed information for Jetstar passengers here.
Best route for passengers on Virgin Australia, Rex, Alliance, Link Airways, National Jet Express and Aerlink
Passengers can only use the Virgin area terminal entrances to access airline check-in and bag drop, due to a closure of the central area of the terminal building.
Checked-in passengers will use the temporary security screening point at the southern end of the terminal. Access to the screening point is via the doors opposite baggage claim 7.
For Domestic passengers being dropped off on the Pick-up and Drop-off road, please use these zones for easier access to the Domestic Terminal:
- All Qantas and Jetstar passengers, it is recommended that you use Zone 1 (Light Blue) to Zone 3 (Dark Blue) at the very beginning of the road.
Virgin Australia, Rex, Alliance, Link Airways, National Jet Express, and Link Airways passengers, it is recommended that you use Zone 6 (Yellow) through to Zone 7 (Green) towards the end of the road.
Now the central area of the Domestic Terminal is closed, we have set up two temporary information desks. You can find the friendly Airport Ambassadors before screening, opposite baggage carousel 5 and baggage carousel 3. Just look for the blue shirts with the yellow ‘I’.
The Prayer room at the International Terminal has been temporarily relocated to Level 3, after security, near gate 78. The Prayer room at the Domestic Terminal is temporarily closed whilst we upgrade the amenities. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to improve our facilities.
International Terminal Construction Works
Construction works have commenced on the International Terminal Security Upgrade & Retail Project in the food court area of Level 4 and on Level 3 around the Security Screening area.
Tips for departing International passengers
As a result of construction works reducing space in this area, queuing for check-in and security screening may be longer than usual especially during the morning peak times. Flight prioritisation, queue management, Terminal Support Officers along with additional signage will be in place to help passengers at these peak times.
Passengers can help reduce their security screening wait times by preparing their carry-on baggage for screening before arriving at the airport to reduce the likelihood of bags needing to be re-screened, increasing the queue time for other passengers. Please read this information and tips below:
- Get familiar with the rules around Powders, Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (PLAGS) - when you’re flying internationally your carry-on bags will undergo an additional check for powders, liquids, aerosols and gels. You’re allowed to carry up to 100ml or 100g of each onto the flight, which need to be presented for screening in a transparent 20 x 20cm bag.
- Not sure what you can bring onboard? Please refer to the Department of Home Affairs website that goes into detail on what you can bring on board and medical information.
