Certain types of development are defined in section 89 of the Airports Act 1996 as being ‘major airport development’.
Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) is required to develop a Major Development Plan (MDP) before undertaking such developments. Draft Major Development Plans then undergo public consultation prior to being submitted to the Commonwealth Minister for Infrastructure and Transport for development approval.
From time to time, this page will provide:
- Draft Major Development Plans that are undergoing public consultation; and
- Major Development Plans that have recently been approved by the Minister.

Withdrawal of Major Development Plan - BNE Auto Mall
On 16 December 2024, the Hon Catherine King MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, acknowledged the withdrawal of the Major Development Plan (MDP) for the BNE Auto Mall at Brisbane Airport.
The impacts arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as domestic and international market factors, have not only changed the automotive market but also resulted in significant construction cost escalations. These circumstances have resulted in BAC being unable to continue with the development as planned.
