As part of an ongoing commitment to the environment and sustainability, Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) operates a fleet of 11 electric buses for the landside transport operations within the airport precinct. The operation of the buses required a dedicated base location both for maintenance and electric charging. Works were completed in June 2019 off Ivy May Way near the existing AIRPARK, and delivered:
New bus maintenance facility
New bus cleaning facility
New office building
New hard-stand bus parking facility
Eight new electric bus charging stations.
Environmental benefits of the project include:
100 per cent electrically charged buses; zero tail pipe emissions
Reduction of 250 tonnes of carbon emission each year, equivalent to taking 100 cars off the road
Driving range of 600 kilometres on a single battery charge
Reduced noise pollution
Engineered office building roof designed to maximise rainwater harvesting
Engineering structural design to support solar generation
Bio-retention basin to capture and treat storm water runoff before it is discharged to the storm water drainage system
Improved local air quality compared to similar local buses
