While the exact date is difficult to pinpoint, the story goes that the first hot chip was eaten in 1853. Now over 170 years later, we can’t imagine a holiday without it!
Whether you’re a thin or thick chip lover, salty fry fanatic, or someone who needs that crispy, golden goodness in your hot chip – Brisbane Domestic Airport has got you covered. We took one for the team and taste tested every hot chip in the Domestic Terminal, so you are well-prepared for your next visit. Here’s where to find them:
Best Loaded Chip
The LOCAL's seasoned shoestring fries topped with guacamole, salsa, cheese, and burger sauce is the ultimate combo we have been waiting for, and one we are counting down the days can go back and have again.
The Independent has seriously upped the Loaded Chip game, with three mouthwatering options. Go classic and indulgent with Truffle and Parmesan, or dive into bold flavours with Beef, Chilli and Cheese or the smoky, herb-packed Chorizo and Chimichurri (GF). Whether you are veggie or craving protein, there's a perfect pile of chips waiting for you.

Best Hot Chip to Go
You don’t need a drive thru for the best chips on the go here at Domestic Terminal.
McDonald’s is synonymous with a thin, crunchy, salty fry, so naturally, this was our first stop on our hot chip adventure. The Golden Arches never disappoint, and are the perfect pit stop on your holiday to grab some tasty fries.
Need a thick chip to satisfy that craving? Red Rooster is where you need to go. Not only is this thick chip quick to grab, but it’s also covered in chicken salt – delish!

Best Side Chip
Do you love your chips as a side piece? Same! At Graze Grill & Bar, we couldn’t go past their classic Graze Beef Burger, with chips to dip into a delicious tomato sauce on the side.
The Lord Lamington spoils you for choice, by not only making their deliciously seasoned chips a side with tomato sauce but including them in some of their top-tier dishes. Going on a tropical holiday? May we suggest the Fish and Chips before you take off?
With a menu like The Independent’s, it’s no surprise they have two types of chips you can try. Whether you’re after a simple, salty French fry, or some truffle and parmesan fries, you can’t go wrong here. Keep an eye on their menu – with a rotating chef every four months, who knows what type of chip combo will be up next!
