As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, Brisbane Airport has introduced carbon offsets to airport parking.
For this initiative, Brisbane Airport has partnered with Tasman Environmental Markets (TEM), Asia Pacific's largest carbon offset provider.
Tasman Environmental Markets' projects aim to deliver sustainable landscapes that restore a healthy environmental balance between agriculture and conservation. They also provide diversification of income and therefore are an effective enabler to negate the need to over graze marginal and ecologically sensitive landscapes.
- The carbon offset project Brisbane Airport Corporation will be supporting is a native bush regeneration project, located in southwest Queensland. These bush carbon farming project work with landholders to regenerate and protect native vegetation which can provide important habitat and nutrients for native wildlife. These sustainable agricultural practices bring an income to farmers to help improve marginal land and reduce salinity and erosion.
- Establishing these wildlife corridors allows animals to move across the landscape, accessing food and a chance to boost populations. Enabling this bush regeneration contributes greatly to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Additional activities being undertaken include feral animal control, noxious weed management, and artesian water management initiatives.

Tasman Environmental Markets delivers carbon offsets from a diverse portfolio of premium carbon projects around the world. Their projects are accredited under internationally recognised standards & consists of eligible carbon offset units that have been assessed as meeting the Australian Government’s Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard’s offsets integrity principles.
*Offsets cannot be resold once they have been produced and verified. Each offset is allocated a unique ID number on a public register maintained by the Clean Energy Regulator Australia.
A carbon offset is a way to compensate for your emissions by funding equivalent carbon dioxide (CO2e) savings elsewhere.
By compiling the postcode data of all our online parking customers for 2019, we calculated the average return trip for a parking customer to be 70km.
The National Transport Commission (NTC) measures CO2e emissions using the Vehicle Emissions Intensity measure, where they calculate how much CO2e a vehicle is likely to produce per kilometre.
To ensure we could cover the majority of vehicles, we based our calculations off the average vehicle emissions intensity measure of heavy SUV's provided by the NTC, then we multiplied this by an average 70km return trip. This calculated to 15kg of C02e emitted.
Your offset purchase of $0.66c covers 15kg of CO2e emitted. Brisbane Airport will then match each purchase, increasing the offset to 30kg.
