Whilst every effort is made to return items to their rightful owners, unfortunately, many possessions remain unclaimed. Of these items, some are donated to local charities, while valuables are offered for sale to the public in our annual lost property charity auction.
2024 Brisbane Airport Lost Property Auction
Our 2024 Lost Property Auction was held from 6 - 27 October 2024, stay tuned for an announcement about the funds raised for The Courier-Mail Childrens Fund. This year's Lost Property Auction features a range of surprising items left behind by the 22.6 million passengers who travelled through the terminal in the past year.
In our biggest auction to date, the Lost Property Auction raised $80,000 for The Courier-Mail Children's Fund. These funds were distributed between Little Wings, and Trek Shed's youth program in partnership with PCYC.
The 2022 Lost Property Auction raised money for The Courier-Mail Children’s Fund for the fourth year in a row. The 2022 auction raised $66,000 with the funds distributed between Zephyr Education, Speld and Traction.
Even with a reduction of passengers travelling through Brisbane Airport’s International and Domestic Terminals with the impacts of COVID-19, many weird, wonderful and valuable items are still accidentally left behind by travellers.
$17,699 was raised for The Courier-Mail Children’s Fund through the 2020 Lost Property Auction, which was awarded to Braille House to aid in improving literacy and quality of life for blind and vision impaired people by transcribing, reprinting and rebinding braille books. The money from the 2020 Lost Property Auction will be used to transcribe 25 books into braille for blind and vision impaired adults and children.
Over $25,000 was raised in the 2019 Lost Property Auction, with the funds being dispersed The Courier-Mail Children’s Fund to Active Eight (A8), a grassroots charity based in Toowong that is dedicated to assisting young people with disabilities to activate and achieve their full social, emotional and physical potential. A8 used the funds to install Australia’s first dance and yoga ceiling hoist system, allowing children with serious mobility issues the opportunity to take part in dance and yoga activities.
The auction raised more than $15,000 in 2018 and these funds were dispersed through The Courier-Mail Children’s Fund to the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation (QATSIF) to support 16 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders complete Year 12.
In our inuagural online Lost Property auction in 2017, raised over $21,000 for the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors.
